Oooops!

To help people enjoy and preserve their trees
using research and technology

To prevent construction damage, a sturdy barrier fence must be erected around the root protection zone before any construction activity begins. Furthermore, the fence must be monitored to assure that it remains standing during construction.

Many root protection zone fences do not remain standing. (click photo to enlarge)

The good and the bad of construction damage. Leaving a tree standing during construction is NOT preserving that tree for the long term.

bulletThe tree is going..., going..., gone. The intentions of saving this tree were commendable. But the large oak was just too close to the building pad with no real protection of the rest of the roots during construction. This tree was not a good selection for preservation.

Boring in utilities is the way to protect tree roots. Trenching cuts important roots.

Another example of a tree going..., going..., gone due to construction damage to the root system.

The first photo was taken in 2001. The next photo without the parking lot tree was taken in 2002.   What happened to the tree?
