What is a Board Certified Master Arborist?
A Board Certified Master Arborist (BCMA) is an arborist who has reach
ed the pinnacle of his or her profession. It is a higher level than Certified Arborist.
BCMA credential holders must be an active ISA Certified Arborist with a minimum of seven years experience as an ISA Certified Arborist. To qualify to sit for the BCMA exam, the applicant must earn eight “points” from categories that include measurable experience, formal education, related credentials, and professional experience. The computer-based exam covers science, practice, and management.
At the present time there are six BCMA arborists in the state of Florida and approximately 256 in the United States (as of April, 2009). For comparison purposes there are 1,629 certified arborists in Florida and 20,859 in the United States (April, 2009).

The ISA Certified Arborist Credential
This is
the largest group of credential holders. These professional arborists have a minimum of three years experience in some aspect of tree care and have passed an exam developed by an international panel of tree experts. The exam extensively covers every aspect of tree care and the individuals must have an acceptable level of knowledge in all areas of arboriculture.
